website

This is by far the biggest road block people hit, it is the reason I joined so many programs all promised a website that I could promote and make money.  I had no idea where to start, I wasn’t a writer or designer.  Other questions entered my mind, hosting, domains, servers, search engines rankings all these terms scared me away from the idea of creating a website.  I did check into having one made and it was incredibly expensive and I had already spent more than enough with no success.

FEAR – False Evidence Appearing Real

That is exactly what I experienced when it came to building a website, once I plugged into a great community of helpful entrepreneurs I found making a website very easy, doable in as little as 5 minutes.  Yes only 5 minutes, my business suffered for so many years because my fear to dig in and learn what it really took to have a website.  I now spend less time clicking for credits and sending some replicated affiliate link and doing something I found to enjoy, putting what I learned and my thoughts into a website to help others.

TRUTH

A website is critical to success of your business, it is what sets you apart from everyone else.  Your website is what draws people to you, instead of you looking for people.  It allows people to know you and your passion, builds trust and gives them a place to contact you with questions.  Next time you see an ad for some new shiny program look and see if that page has a place to leave a comment or ask a question, you won’t.

A Good Website

There are some key things that make a good website?  I will outline these key elements here and go into further detail in other posts.  So here are key elements for a good website:

  • Needs to load fast, people don’t like waiting for a site to load and will click away
  • Must have a nice design, simple and professional works best
  • Easy to navigate, a confusing site is another turn off.
  • Use of a Content Management System (CMS), wordpress is the most popular and user friendly
  • Most important, Content must be quality and your own.  Copy cats and plagiarism will not get search engine rankings and this is where people find you

Hey Bob! Was doing some simple research and ran across your article. One thing that caught my eye and I agree 100% with is the site load speed. Most people either bog their sites down with 5000 ad’s or use any many as 100 plug in’s. The site loads so slow that I quickly lose interest and move on. Site speed is highly important.

Thanks John, I have left many a site due to speed. In the world today, people want things quickly, because we are all busy and waiting on a site just isn’t going to happen. Thanks again

Your list of requirements for a good website is spot on. Many website owners make the mistake of trying too hard to make their website really flashy and impressive, full of all kinds of bells and whistles. But ultimately, people just want a clean, professional-looking, fast website that provides them with the information they are looking for. One big mistake I see people making is having a large image at the top. The pushes the text down, which is what people have come to the site to see.

    • admin says:

Thanks Marcus, I agree about the large top image. I tend to judge based on image and many times don’t read the content. I’m sure I missed some good content but with so much information on the net we make quick/flash decisions and move on. It’s getting the visitor to read your contend that’s important.

      Thanks again

Hi Bob. I’ve been searching for indicators of a good website and stumbled to your website. I have a website but doesn’t really know whether it is good or bad enough to my visitors.

One thing I noted from you is the loading speed. Do you know where to check loading speed and how can we improve our site loading speed?

Thanks so much for your tips :)

I use wealthy affiliate they offer a website monitor the checks for your website health which includes site loading. One of the main keys to speed is limiting your plugins. I try to keep it around 5 plugins and do some research on the plugin before using.

      Hope that Helps

Great advice for people about building a website. It does seem like a daunting task at first, for some more than others. But the thing is it’s really about just helping a group of people with a problem. If you can do that well then your website does not need to be shiny or expensive. Just find a target audience, connect with them and help them solve a problem. Anyone can do this that is willing to put the work in.

    • admin says:

Hello Tim and thanks for the comment, your so right, building a website is not the hard. Sure glad I found the education I needed.

      Thanks again

Thanks for the tips on what makes a good website. As I have just started to create my very first site I need to know what I need to do to attract visitors.

As I search sites for my everyday use I know what I like the look and so can take that infra action and use it for my own site.

A site that loads fast will obviously be best for people over ones that take an age to load. But how can you guarantee that a site will be fast? Do you have any tips on this?

    • admin says:

Thanks for the question, I found that keeping the plugins to as few as possible helps, also video can slow it down, the key is to test and test, if you add something and it slows it down, remove it. I also find simple format is better, the fancy you try to get the slower it can become.

      Hope that helps.

      Bob
